THE GRAVITY MODEL OF TRADE IN PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS AND WIND TURBINES IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC REGION
The Asia-Pacific region is an area where dynamic integration processes occur. This regional integration has a significant and stimulating impact on the socio-economic development, and the volume of trade flows between these countries. More and more countries in this region are intensifying activities for the energy transformation towards producing electricity from renewable sources – especially from solar and wind energy. The energy transformation process requires the expansion of wind and solar power plants in these countries, which translates into an increase in the demand for goods, i.e. photovoltaic panels and wind turbines. Asia-Pacific countries (especially China and ASEAN countries) are among the world’s leaders in producing and exporting these goods.
The research problem of the conducted project can be formulated as a question – What was the impact of the factors related to the process of economic integration and the energy transformation policy in the Asia-Pacific region on the volume of trade flows between these countries (including goods related to the production of electricity from solar and wind energy) in 2005-2019?
The solution of the indicated research problem will determine examining and assessing the impact of individual factors on the research subject, especially in the context of recent activities aimed at deepening economic integration in this region, an example of which may be the signed Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and activities in the area of already operating groups, i.e. The Trans-Pacific Partnership and ASEAN . Researching the development of the current and forecasting future economic relations in this region (especially in a strategic area such as the renewable energy sector) is also important from the perspective of the main trade partners of Asia and the Pacific, which include the Member States of the European Union.
The research project is carried out in cooperation with the BIOSTAT. It is a company, which carries out the part of the project related to conducting statistical analyzes. I will describe a detailed description of the tasks, goals and subsequent stages of the project after presenting all the results and the publication of the planned publications.
The total value of the grant received from the Faculty of Economics and Finance of the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business, as part of the internal grant, is 6 235 PLN (~1 400 EUR). Currently, the project is at the stage of carrying out research tasks. The expected date of publication of the results is in the second half of 2022.
