Study Visit to the Consulate General of Germany in Wrocław

On March 15, 2024, I had the pleasure of leading a group of students, academic staff, and doctoral candidates from the Wrocław University of Economics and Business during a study visit to the Consulate General of Germany in Wrocław. The meeting was made possible thanks to the courtesy of the Deputy Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Torsten Göhler, who personally invited our delegation.

Purpose of the meeting

The aim of the visit was to deepen our knowledge about economic cooperation between Poland and Germany. We focused on the role played by the Protocol and Economic Department and the entire Consulate General in promoting Polish-German economic relations. Special attention was given to the significance of energy transformation for economic diplomacy and how these elements influence the shaping of cooperation between our countries.

Highlights

The meeting began with a presentation by Ms. Monika Wacławczyk from the Protocol and Economic Department, who discussed the structure of the German diplomatic representation in Wrocław, its main tasks, and methods of economic and political cooperation with Polish entities. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about the role of German chambers of commerce in intensifying Polish-German economic contacts. Following the presentation, a Q&A session was held with the Consul, who thoroughly answered all our questions. It was an excellent opportunity to delve into the topics of economic cooperation and the role of diplomacy in shaping positive international relations.

Conclusions

The study visit concluded with a group photo, which will serve as a memento of this fruitful meeting. Mr. Göhler also extended an invitation for further cooperation between the Wrocław University of Economics and Business and the Consulate General of Germany, reflecting an openness and desire to further deepen mutual relations. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Consul Torsten Göhler and Ms. Monika Wacławczyk for hosting our group and providing the opportunity to enhance our understanding of Polish-German economic cooperation. This meeting was a valuable educational experience for all participants and will undoubtedly contribute to the further development of cooperation between our institutions.
