"Student – Citizen" Project: Voter Turnout Initiatives for the 2024 European Parliament Elections
I had the pleasure of participating in the “Student – Citizen. Voter Turnout Initiatives for the 2024 European Parliament Elections” project, which was a unique opportunity for direct engagement of academic youth in the democratic process and promoting civic activity. By combining theory with practical action, participants gained the chance for personal development and a real impact on increasing voter turnout.
The activities undertaken within the project were twofold. In the first stage, on April 25, 2024, I participated in project workshops using the Design Thinking (DT) methodology in collaboration with the Innovative Solutions Design Center DT HUB at the Wrocław University of Economics and Business. The aim of the workshops was to define problems related to low voter turnout and develop solution proposals for specific target groups. Design Thinking is a problem-solving method that focuses on user needs. In the second stage, from April 26 to June 7, 2024, together with other participants, we implemented voter turnout campaigns developed during the workshops. As a member of one of nine teams, consisting of students from Wrocław universities (WUEB, University of Wrocław, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, SWPS University), we carried out our own initiatives aimed at increasing participation in the European Parliament elections.
On June 20, 2024, at 5:00 PM, a gala summarizing the project “Student – Citizen. Voter Turnout Initiatives for the 2024 EP Elections” took place in the CKU building at WUEB. During the gala, the voter turnout campaigns conducted by student groups were summarized. Short films titled “20 Years of Poland in the EU,” created by the students, were also presented. Participation in the “Student – Citizen” project was a significant experience for me, allowing active engagement in democratic processes and promoting civic attitudes among youth.
